- The Saros series, umbral magnitude, partial-phase duration, totality duration when applicable and broad geographic visibility.
How to read the data
Umbral magnitude describes how deeply the Moon enters Earth’s dark umbral shadow. NASA’s decade-table notes explain that the value is negative for a penumbral eclipse, between zero and one for a partial eclipse, and at least one for a total eclipse. Visibility is geographic: an event can exist on the global calendar without being observable from a particular city.
